Why a Workshop On...
IT SOURCING STRATEGY:
A PROACTIVE PEOPLE-BASED APPROACH

"Sourcing" is no longer something that happens to only large IT organizations in distress, or very small start-up organizations. Organizations of all types and sizes are making choices about what work is done inside and what work is done by outside service providers. The growth of the US based service providers has recently been matched by the rise of global sources, especially in India.

IT leadership’s reaction to this array of choices has varied. Some have resisted until forced to take action by their clients, their management, or until market forces have left little choice. This workshop provides the framework to examine the choices and chart a course for sourcing which considers the needs of all stakeholders.

Sourcing has also been a threatening subject to IT employees. College enrollment in information technology curriculums is down from a few years ago, and many suggest that is due to the concern that fewer opportunities exist. This workshop will explore the impact of sourcing decisions on people, just as it explores the impact of people on the success of sourcing initiatives.

Lastly, almost all organizations have done some external sourcing of IT services. Some have been largely successful, others not so. Getting it right is important for IT Leadership credibility, our clients, and our organizations in total. This workshop will build on current best practices to assist organizations in implementing sourcing strategies and making them work.

AT THIS WORKSHOP YOU WILL LEARN HOW TO:

  • Be Proactive – Get past the emotion and learn enough about sourcing such that you can be proactive in making or dealing with sourcing effectively.
  • Understand Client and Employee Expectations and Concerns – In addition to concerns that IT leaders have so too do your clients and employees. Learn how to involve the rest of the business in the development of strategies, deal with emotional issues and build support for selected strategies.
  • Integrate Sourcing and People Strategies – To be effective, sourcing decisions must be integrated with decisions you make around what skill you acquire and which skills you want to develop and retain.
  • Better Manage Sourcing Relationships – Obtain the tools to better manage sourcing relationships, avoiding pitfalls and capitalizing on best practices.
